10 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD START THE GYM…

So your thinking about getting in shape, huh? Well here’s 10 solid reasons for you to get your ass in the gym.

#1: STOP SLACKING & GET HEALTHY

This should go without saying but I’m going to say it anyway. Going the gym has many health benefits from reducing the risk of heart disease all the way to simpler things such as; improving your stamina to losing and maintaining a healthy weight. All you need is a good workout schedule and dedication!

#2: FEEL GOOD & GAIN CONFIDENCE

After getting into the gym for awhile you’ll soon begin to feel better about yourself, as you’ll begin to see physical improvements along with increased health. This will in-turn make you naturally more positive and make the gym-going experience better as well as increasing your confidence.

The gained confidence you’ll earn will be help you in all walks of life such as; your personal relationships, your friends, basically your entire social life and possibly even your job. Joining the gym won’t just change your physique, it will change your mentality.

#3: LOOK GOOD

Most likely if your thinking of joining the gym, you are probably more focused towards simply improving your appearance and theres nothing wrong with that.

Set yourself a goal and everyday you go to the gym just aim to get one step closer to it, then one day you’ll begin to notice you’ll be receiving more compliments from people on your physique and you’ll look in the mirror and be overly pleased at what you see. Believe me a good body can do wonders for your life.

#4: SOMETHING TO DO

Got nothing to do? If so, the gym is the ideal place to spend up to a couple of hours of your day. Rather than sit on your ass all day watching TV, go make some muscle gains instead and soon it’ll transform from being “something to do” to “something you look forward to do.

#5: STAY ALIVE & LIVE LONGER

The heading says it all. A healthy lifestyle will ultimately let you live longer. Say no more.

#6: RELIEVE YOUR STRESS

The gym is the perfect place to let go and relax. Regardless of what is stressing you out, theres nothing better than putting in your headphones and hitting the gym and working out to either distract or relieve yourself of stress, its the perfect getaway.

Instead of moping around, get your self to the gym and throw some weight around and gain muscle! Plus…it’s cheaper than a therapist :).

#7: THE GYM’S RELIABLE

You can always count on the gym! Some people prefer to workout by simply going for runs or working out at home and theres nothing wrong with that. However…what happens when it’s been raining for days or that one day of missing a home workout turns into three missed days. This is where actually stepping foot in a gym will really come in handy.

I have personally never really been into going for runs but I have attempted to workout at home. I bought all the gym equipment, benches, weights and all…and it was great for about two/three weeks. Then the slipping from my routine began, I’d miss one day, then slowly shorten the exercise so I could go back and watch TV (not good I know).

For these reasons is why I would recommend getting a gym membership, since doing so I rarely skip a gym day and feel a lot more dedicated. Plus the gym has much more equipment and dumbbells allowing you to be able to switch up your exercise at any time.

#8: GAIN A GOOD HOBBY

It’s a hobby that keeps on giving. One thing I’ve noticed though is, as with many hobbies when you attend the gym on a regular basis, it begins to be one of your main talking points with people, and you’ll slowly see an increase of fellow gym goers into your friend lists (not that this is a bad thing). I must also say when your with friends that don’t care or take part in fitness activities, try to lessen the gym talk to a minimum as you don’t want to be that guy that only speaks of the gym (unless they continually ask about the gym themselves).

#9: SEE FRIENDS OR MEET NEW PEOPLE

Aside from getting muscle gains and a great physique, the gym can be a great place to socialise with current or new friends. Just make sure you do actually workout, I’ve seen too many people in the gym with friends sitting around on machines like their chilling in a coffee shop having a chat.

SEEING CURRENT FRIENDS

When I first began going gym, I did so to get fitter but to actually have time to spend with my friends on a regular basis, as it was something worthwhile to do together outside of meals and clubbing.

MEETING NEW FRIENDS

Do’s

  • If asked, help someone with a set if they are struggling
  • Be friendly
  • If it doesn’t inconvenience you, allow someone to join in on your sets here and there

 Dont’s

  • Initiate long time consuming conversations…the gym is for working out not nattering on
  • Criticise people you don’t know on their form (unless they ask for tips)

#10: IMPROVE YOUR ATHLETIC SKILLS

Push your body to its limits and learn to do more things. First things first gain more strength, stamina and muscles, once they are achieved monitor your progress and over time further improve them.

Once you have improved those mentioned above you will be able to take it one step further and attempt to do more advanced and impressive things, for me it was building up and strengthening my core to be able to do hanging leg raise holds in mid air, muscle upsand the human flag (‘how to’ vids for these coming soon!).

SUMMARY

Going to the gym is great and can really make a big difference to your life.
