Conquering Your Laziness: How to stay committed to Training
Let’s be real…we all have those days when the gym feels like the last place we want to be. The vibe’s off, your energy’s low, and staying on your sofa sounds way more tempting than squats. But the thing is… progress doesn’t wait for motivation to show up.!
So over the years, I’ve figured out some solid ways to push through those “can’t-be-bothered” days. Let me share what’s worked for me, these are some of my practical tips to help you stay consistent even when you’re not feeling it.
1. Start Small and Keep It Up
Don’t stress yourself out with a massive workout list for your workout. Instead, set a simple small realistic goal to get you in the door. For example; “I’ll just do for 20 minutes then leave.”
Chances are, once you start moving, the momentum kicks in and you’ll smash the whole session. And even if you don’t? A little is always better than nothing.
2. Music Is Your Secret Weapon
Create and listen to a fire playlist, trust me it can turn your whole mood around. Throw on your favourite tracks that make you feel like the main character in a movie.
If you’re not into music, then pick a long motivational podcast or speech to do the trick.
3. Do What You Love (💪)
Not every session has to be about doing the “perfect” workout. Some days, ditch your program and focus on exercises you enjoy. If deadlifts are your thing, hit them up. Love smashing out pull-ups? Go for it. I call these “enjoyment workouts” they may not be the most optimal but they can be great when you have periods of feeling lazy.
4. Show Up for You
Workout buddies are great, but relying on someone else for motivation is not a smart move to make. This is because if they can’t make it, you’re left stuck or may use it as an excuse to skip the gym yourself.
You need to build that self-discipline and show up for yourself. You’ll also feel more proud knowing you didn’t wait on anyone else to get the job done.
5. Reward Yourself to Motivate Yourself
You be surprised how motivating it can be to buy a new gym-fit. Yes, its a short-lived motivated factor but it call act as a mini spark to get you going when you feel down.
6. Remember Your Why
When all else fails, go back to your why.
- Why did you start training?
- What are the goals you’d like to reach?
- How do you want to feel six months from now?
Don’t Wait for Motivation, Build Habits
Nobody’s motivated all the time, but the habits you build will keep you moving even on tough days. Start small, find what works for you, and keep showing up for yourself.
